When does the legal age for getting a tattoo start? This article will inform you of everything you need to know without you worrying about anything. How old do you have to be to get a tattoo? In each state, some laws restrict body art and body modification for minors, and sometimes different rules apply in other localities.

The most common medical reason for parents to tattoo their babies is health problems, and the procedure must be performed by a physician or osteopath licensed to tattoo.

Many states, including Montana, New Hampshire, and Nevada, have no specified minimum age requirement for tattoos, instead of utilizing existing statutory laws that prevent persons under age from entering legal contracts or render informed consent. I suppose this was easier than putting new regulations specific to tattooing while still affecting the same outcome.

Age restrictions for tattoos by state and exceptions

Like so many different laws and guidelines in the USA, regulation, and enforcement of tattoo shops and artists are left up to the state. Texas is another exciting example of the different priorities that state entities place when it comes to body art. Even with written consent from a parent or guardian, it is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to get tattooed, save some particular circumstances.

As long as their parents agree to the tattoos, minors (with parental consent) may receive tattoos to cover offensive, gang, or drug-related tattoos, or “other words, symbols, or markings that the guardian or parent believes will benefit the child.” Tennessee also has this law.

Medical markings are placed for radiation therapy and are often tattooed by licensed physicians. Minors’ hands, fingers, and necks are virtually impossible to tattoo in most shops.

We never think about where pelvic stars will be tattooed when we tattoo someone. No, even on adult women or men, we aren’t considering whether this zone is sexy. Tattoo artists see the canvas as nothing more than a blank piece of paper. A zoom-in shows us how large the stars we’re going to place are on the 2 inches by 2 inches area we’re planning to put them in

USA State Legislation on Minimum Ages

Tattoos can only be obtained without parental permission if you are at least 18 years old. It is possible to get a driver’s license when you are 16 or 17 with parental consent, but I’m not sure. Under 18s are usually not permitted inside most places. Well, these are the places I’ve been.

Since people cannot be considered adults until they are 18, tattoos have an age requirement of 18. Ink isn’t something to be taken lightly, especially when you decide to get one. As your decision involves future considerations, you must be completely prepared and aware of your choice.
